Actor Rajkummar Rao was recently featured on comedian Raunaq Rajani’s YouTube comedy show, where he appeared alongside comedians Abish Mathew and Urooj Ashfaq.
During the show, Raunaq opened up about an awkward situation at home, revealing that his longtime cook of five years often ignores or subtly disrespects his wife. Despite this, Raunaq admitted he hasn’t had the courage to let the cook go. Rajkummar responded by sharing a similar experience from his own life, where he didn’t hesitate to dismiss a cook who had been disrespectful toward his wife, actress Patralekhaa.
Raunaq explained that while his cook isn’t outright rude, his dismissive behavior toward his wife—such as ignoring her and only addressing him—borders on disrespect. In contrast, Rajkummar shared a story about a talented cook he once hired who made delicious vegetarian Mexican food. However, when Patralekhaa mentioned that the cook wasn’t polite to her, Rajkummar noticed the behavior himself. By the third day, when the cook made a face at her, Rajkummar took immediate action and asked him to pack his things and leave. The audience applauded his decisive stance.
Raunaq joked that although his cook may be sexist, he’s reluctant to fire him because the household relies on the food he prepares. He added that his wife also enjoys the food but not the cook’s behavior.
Rajkummar expressed empathy for Raunaq’s wife and said he’d like to speak with her. Most of the panel and the audience agreed that the cook should be dismissed. Meanwhile, Rajkummar is busy promoting his new film Bhool Chuk Maaf, a wedding-themed movie also starring Wamiqa Gabbi. The film is currently showing in theatres for a two-week run before its release on Prime Video.
